PREPARING FOR YOUR HEADSHOT
1. HOW DO I PREPARE FOR MY HEADSHOT?
I suggest avoiding jewelry, hats, or accessories. I also recommend solid colours without logos or patterns (i.e. stripes or dots). You will have time for fixing your hair or makeup, however, I suggest you do this prior to arriving or hire a makeup artist.
2. DO I NEED TO BRING AN EXTRA WARDROBE?
No, although having an extra outfit can help match your profile image to different sites such as your Facebook vs your Website vs LinkedIn. If you do not bring a change of clothes you will have more time for me to shoot, therefore giving you more photos.
3. CAN I GET A DISCOUNT IF I DON'T BRING ANOTHER OUTFIT?
No. The price of my headshots remains the same if you do not change into another outfit.
4. DO YOU PROVIDE A MAKEUP ARTIST?
No. I suggest you do a Google search of ‘Make Up Artists in Halifax’ or from whatever city you reside within Atlantic Canada.
5. SHOULD I GET MY HAIR AND MAKEUP DONE BEFORE I ARRIVE?
Yes, I highly suggest getting a makeup artist and/or hair stylist to give you an added advantage in getting a spectacular headshot.
6. DO YOU HAVE ANY MAKEUP TIPS?
Research in the Headshot photography world reveals you should not put powder on your face. The skin has to glow. You should also not wear heavy eye shadow. Natural is better. Also, you should moisturize your face to get it healthy so it’s not dry.
7. CAN I WEAR JEWELRY?
I suggest not wearing jewelry unless you wear it regularly as part of your job and/or you feel comfortable wearing it. Remember the purpose of a headshot is to attract future clients to your face, and not to your jewelry.
8. WHAT COLOUR CLOTHES SHOULD I WEAR?
Avoid clothes that are close to the colour of your skin tone. It’s good to have some contrast. When your make up is darker, I suggest wearing neutral colours and when your make up is natural wear brighter colours. Whatever you choose to wear, you should feel comfortable in it.
9. WHAT PATTERNS SHOULD I WEAR?
Avoid stripes, dots, and logos or anything that is too noisy and distracting. Solid colours work best. When I’m getting my own headshots, I prefer wearing my favourite colour black.
10. WHAT CLOTHING ITEMS SHOULD I AVOID?
Avoid wearing tube tops or a strapless dress, it pulls attention away from the face. If you insist on wearing these items, then also wear a scarf or cardigan.
